About Sweet Pea Festival
The Sweet Pea Festival in Boseman, Montana is an annual tradition spanning over nearly 50 years. It is a celebration of summer and the sweet pea flowers that bloom during those months but has since grown to also be a commemoration of community, arts, and agriculture. The 3 day festival includes flower arranging competitions, musical performances, dance performances, theatre, crafts, food, artisan vendors, races, and more.
The event program poster holds the important task of organizing all of the information for the events of the festival on one poster while also drawing in its target audience with a relevant theme.
Objective
Create an event program poster for the Sweet Pea Festival in Boseman, MT that contains all the information regarding the festival’s schedule while appealing to the festival’s theme and audience.
Theme
Given that the majority of festival attendees are either women of all ages and young families who are often encouraged to make these outings by the mom, the goal for the theme was to appeal to a female audience.
The theme that was chosen to inspire the design of the poster was what people refer to as “grandma chic”; feminine, classy, and southern. The poster mimics the haphazardness of a page you may find in a grandmother’s scrapbook with layered patterned paper taped, stamped, pasted, and torn. The textures and imagery reflect the country lifestyle that many of the attendees live and admire and use warm pinks and purples to compliment the festival’s floral theme.
